Air Fryer Recipe for Whole Chicken
Good day everyone! Have you ever thought about making a whole chicken in an air fryer? Its entirely possible and I’m about to show you!
First let’s list your ingredients. Make sure you remove any giblets from the chicken
1.5 lb whole chicken, The weight doesn’t really matter that much, just make sure it can fit in your air fryer. If you need to reduce or increase your ingredients based on size, you may do so at your discretion.
2 Tbs Avocado oil (of course a lot of air fryers claim to be oiless, which is technically true, but for certain items you may need to add a tiny bit of oil to make sure your product doesn’t dry out).
1 Tbs Salt
1 Tbs ground black pepper
1 Tbs garlic power
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
If your chicken is already defrosted with the giblets removed, don’t forget to CLEAN THE CHICKEN! You can run it through cold water and get any gunk (if any) off of it before you begin prep. Wipe it off with a paper towel when finished.
Mix all of your seasonings together, turning it into a paste once you combine the oil.
Spread your ingredients all over the chicken. The chicken should look like it’s well seasoned. If it doesn’t, you may need to add more ingredients, the last thing you want is a white flavorless piece of meat in your air fryer. Make sure to spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray.
This will help later so the chicken doesn’t stick once it’s completed.
If you’re fast enough you can do this before you season the chicken; preheat the air fryer to 360F for about 5 – 10 minutes.
Once you have all of your seasonings place all over your chicken, it should have a reddish look because of the paprika. I have a rule of thumb, if I can’t physically see the seasoning, it wasn’t seasoned well enough. I suppose it depends on your culture and taste buds so make sure you season according to your liking.
Be careful not to make it too salty though, that’s where some people make their mistake. It’s seasoned too much or not enough, find your balance.
You’re going to want an air fryer that can support a whole chicken, below is the recommended air fryer for this task, you want at least 5.7 Qts.

OK, so your chicken is well seasoned all over, go ahead and pick it up and place it breast down in the air fryer basket. Let it cook for about 50 minutes.
After the 50 minutes are up, flip the chicken over and give it another 10 minutes. If you’re unfamiliar with chicken and you’re just not sure if its ready, you can get a thermometer. Cooked chicken needs to be 165F or higher in its thickest part before one should eat it. That reading needs to last for no less than 10 seconds.
Do not check the temperature of meat that is currently in an oven, it will interfere with your readings.
