Breville Air Fryer Oven – A Quick Review

Breville BOV900BSS Convection and Air Fry Smart Oven Air, Brushed Stainless Steel

Good day everyone! Today we’re going to do a review of the Breville Air Fryer Oven. Just look at that image above, it looks beautiful doesn’t it? Does the machine perform as beautifully as it looks though? Well, as always, let’s take a look at “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!

    The Good

The first thing that caught my eye about this air fryer was that you could see inside. Most air fryers on the market are designed where you just drop your food inside and trust that machine will do it’s job. That’s fine if you trust the manufacturer, but some people would like to observe the progress of their food in real-time.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, with any new cooking device, you have to learn to know your machine! What temperature the manufacturer suggests, may not be best for you specifically. If you think that an air fryer is overcooking/under cooking your food, adjust the temperature or time as needed.

The fact that this device has a see-through display, helps you make any cooking decisions on the fly if necessary.

    Massive Capacity

I’ve written a few reviews about certain air fryers having the capability to cook a whole chicken, but this is the first time I’ve seen one that can fit an entire turkey inside! This thing is absolutely MASSIVE.

The Breville Air Fryer Oven can fit a turkey up to 14lbs inside of its interior, I find that insane! I’ve heard of people deep frying a turkey in the past but I did not think and these had that capability. Well, times are changing very quickly.

There are still people that don’t know these machines exist and how far they’ve come so it will come as a great surprise when they finally make the plunge into this world!

This is one of the most versatile air fryers on the market. The Breville Air Fryer Oven has 13 different cooking functions that makes easier for beginners and veterans alike. It will alike to you Toast up to 9 slices of bread, Bagel, Broil, Roast, Warm, Pizza, Proof, Reheat, Cookies, Slow Cook, Dehydrate up to 110–120 Volts, and of course, the most important; Air Fry!

The LCD Display makes it easy to access these functions. Did you know that there are some air fryers out there that allow you to see inside, but don’t have an oven light?

I think that is a huge design flaw on the part of the makers, but this isn’t one of them! There is an integrated oven light inside so you can monitor your the food’s progress while cooking.

This is not a standalone air fryer, it is a smart oven that can make anything your conventional oven can, but it’s much better and more capable.

The presets make it so simple that anyone can use this machine.

    Precision Cooking

The Breville Air Fryer Oven is very precise, the 6 independent heating elements help rotate where the powerful air needs to go, often resulting in an amazing food product when done. There is a two speed convection fan that has “Super” and “Regular”, which allows for greater control so you can be guaranteed to get the results you want.

This thing is absolutely beautiful. It looks great, and can adapt to nearly any kitchen design. It even makes your kitchen look better while it’s in the process of cooking. Once you purchase this product, it will be a great addition to you any kitchen worldwide.

There still many great features about this product and I believe there are more positive than negative features, but let’s review the worsts parts of the device for a balanced look.

    The Bad

    Very Expensive

There some air fryers on the market that are high in cost, but this one is VERY EXPENSIVE. As I’ve stated before, as an amazon affiliate, I cannot post amazon’s prices on my website, but you can click the image above for more information.

This is a great air fryer, with amazing features, but you are going to paying A LOT for this one. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the most expensive one on the market.

To be fair, the price makes a bit of sense, because it not just have one function. It can do a lot of other things and is not just an air fryer. The engineers who made this, really wanted a machine that can dominate and I think they did exactly what they set out to do.

    Longevity Issues

To be fair, this device has over 800 reviews and most of them are positive with a four and a half star rating on amazon, but when you sell a product to that many consumers, you are bound to run into a few issues as a manufacturer. One of the main issues among consumers is that it stopped working after a few months.

Another user complained that their Breville Air Fryer Oven lasted only 13 months. This machine comes with a 2-year manufacturer warranty and that consumer is getting a replacement, so there’s some positively there, but they feel weary about the machine now.

    Air Fryer Basket

The air fryer basket in it of itself is fine, but it has one major red flag. It literally has a sign that says “DO NOT USE FOODS THAT DRIP WHILE COOKING!

Most people that are using air fryers are adding foods that drip while cooking. I don’t understand why that would even be created for an air fryer, especially one this expensive. That just sounds like a huge design flaw in my eyes.

    The Ugly

    Door Issues

As I’ve said, most of these reviews are positive, but there are going to be a few complaints when you sell this many products. A major complaint from consumers is the door. There was one consumer whose device‘s window shattered while in the mist of cooking a product.

They complained that if their face was close to the door, the shards could have hit them in the face. The picture provided was quite unnerving.

    Possible Fire Hazard

I haven’t seen many issues with this, but one customer complained that their set off the fire alarm in the house due to smoke.

The other user said that their Breville Air Fryer Oven actually caught fire during a cooking session so there are some safety issues that customers need to worry about. The bright side is that these issues are few and far between.

      Hey Ibn,

Breville’s tech has been in the industry for quite some time and I came to trust their cooking items too as I find them quite good. The glass shattering I admit may be a bummer, but that’s what warranties are for wouldn’t you agree? Their microwave that I got previously is still perfect and it’s been more than 10 years now, cant wait to get the air fryer for my quick nugget cooking in between work.

Out of curiosity, why can’t we air cook food that’s dripping though?

You can cook food that’s dripping, but I guess they don’t want you to cook food that drips in the air fryer basket.  I still find it strange though

      Hey Ibrahim

Thank you so much for your informative article relating to the air dryer.

I try and eat as well as I can, but sometimes I like to have a bit of a “cheats” day when eating. So as most people deep-fried foods are a bit of a temptation for me.

To have an air fryer would be a tremendous alternative to an otherwise no-go-zone for gym-junkies and people that like to still eat the things they like and maybe still maintain the waist size at the same time if managed with discipline.

Will look into these products more.

      Thank you again, Ibrahim.

      Kund Regards

Sounds like a great device, Ibrahim but when I got to the part about “DO NOT USE FOODS THAT DRIP WHILE COOKING!” I had to think for a minute.  Don’t turkeys drip when they are cooking?  One would have to put a pan of a piece of aluminum foil under those products to catch the grease.

DEsign flaw? Yes indeed.  I checked it out on Amazon and a good practice would be to have the pan under the basket, like it is in the picture.

I wonder if there have been other door issues and if they took steps to correct it?

You spoke briefly about a fire hazard.  perhaps this is another design issue.  I would think that something that is capable of putting out that much heat (in a small space) should have a way to vent it a little.  either that or it should not be used underneath cabinets but in a place where there is adequate ventilation.

You’re right about its looks though but, for the price.  I don’t know, Ibrahim.  These issues will have to be addressed before I think about having one.  I’ll be sticking with my oven for now.

The message is on the air fryer basket, not the device itself.  Yeah, there are a few issues with it, but they are few and far between.  I think it’s a good device, but I think the price will be the biggest issue
